Информация IFALPA о забастовке в QANTAS

Colleagues,

We have received further information from Aus-ALPA since I last contacted you all on October 29^th regarding the situation at Qantas. As you are probably aware from the media, the Australian industrial  commission, known as Fair Work Australia, has intervened in the dispute, as it is able to do if national interest is at risk, and ordered both the cessation of industrial action by all the unions and end to the lockout imposed by the company. There will now be conciliation over a period of 21 days and, should an agreement by all parties not be forthcoming in this time, binding arbitration will follow.

  Clearly this is not the end of the road, but the urgent request for “Mutual Assistance to Pilots Stranded Away from Home Base” is no longer required and this request is withdrawn. The Federation will continue to work closely with AUS-ALPA to give them all necessary support at this difficult time, and will keep all Member Associations briefed on the situation as it develops. The precedent set here, by which an employer can escalate a dispute to a level where intervention by government agencies is inevitable, must be a concern to us all.

  Finally, I have been asked by AUS-ALPA to pass on their thanks for the support they have received from other IFALPA Members Associations, it has been much appreciated.
